The legendary track in Matterley Basin, England, offered the EMX250 riders challenging conditions and thrilling duels last weekend. There was everything from difficult starts to strong catch-ups and unfortunate crashes.
Rider statement
Liam Owens
“This weekend was neither a highlight nor a disaster. The driving feel and speed were again at a good level, only the starts – which are still not my strong point – made it difficult to be at the front again.
In qualifying, it was enough for 5th place, which was basically a solid basis. In the first race, I only came out of the first lap in 16th place after a bad start, but was able to work my way up to 7th place with a constant pace.
In the second race, the start was slightly better, but again not good enough to keep up with the front runners. The speed was right again, but the decisive overtaking maneuvers were lacking. When the tear-offs were gone, things got even trickier. In the end, 7th place again, which means 6th place in the overall standings.
Of course, it’s clear that I urgently need to come up with something for the starts – I’ll be working on this during the break to finally take the next step.
After eleven intense race weekends in a row, the three-week break is just the right thing. Switch off a bit, stay focused and then attack again with fresh energy.
A big thank you goes to the whole team for their tireless efforts. We’ll continue in Finland – we’re looking ahead!”
Qualifying 5th place, race 1 7th place, race 2 7th place

“Unfortunately, the last race weekend didn’t quite go to plan. I had to settle for 8th place on the grid in qualifying – we definitely had our sights set higher.
The first run started promisingly: I was able to work my way forward quickly and was safely in 6th place for over 15 minutes. But then I crashed, which unfortunately dropped me down to 12th place. It was really annoying, because everything had been going really well until then.
Things went a bit smoother in the second race. I was able to push consistently, avoid mistakes and finish in 8th place in the end. All in all, that means P11 in the overall standings this weekend – not what we work so hard for every day, of course, but setbacks like that are just part of it.
Now it’s the halfway point of the season. We will use the break to recharge our batteries, work on our weak points and attack again with full energy in the second half of the season!”

“The first race began with a solid start and I was able to make up a place on the first lap. I was just about to move up to 6th place when a crash threw a spanner in the works. Unfortunately, I lost some time as a result, but I didn’t give up and finished the race in 13th place. Certainly not the result I was aiming for – but I’ll tick it off and move on.
In the second run, I came out of the gate well again and was around the top 10. Unfortunately, it didn’t go without a crash here either. The footrest got caught in my boot and I hit my foot pretty hard, which made the rest of the race pretty painful.
All in all, it just wasn’t my weekend – my own mistakes, a bit of bad luck, but days like this are part of it. The important thing now is to draw the right conclusions, work hard on our weaknesses and come back stronger at the gate next time!”
